A snapshot interview with Capture My Wedding Photography
I took some time out of my busy editing schedule today to answer some questions about my life as a business owner of Capture My Wedding photography, having just celebrated my 12th year.
I hope you like the blog, it’s a little insight to my passion, the job I love to do.
How does it feel to be part of one of the most exciting days in people’s lives?
It is one of the most amazing feelings to be chosen by a couple, from a vast range of photographers, to capture their wedding photographs. It gives me such a buzz!
As a photographer, what are the most important elements when capturing lasting images of someone’s special day?
For me, it’s getting to know the couple, finding out what THEY like and how they would like THEIR wedding captured. This is always the first place to start when planning wedding photography. I use my experience to help a couple decide what photographs they want (and don’t want) on their wedding day, coupled with their own ideas and suggestions. By getting to know them, I can decipher what’s important to them, after all, it’s their wedding and I want to photograph what they want!
If there’s one piece of advice you could give to brides and grooms – to help them create the best images – what would it be?
Do not pick a photographer based on price. Pick a photographer because you love their work and because you like them. You spend a lot of time with your photographer, so you must like them and trust them to capture your wedding day as it happens, there is no going back. I tell every couple to do research, meet with photographers, chat to them, ask them the same questions so that you can compare and contrast the answers and show them what you like. That way you will help them capture the best images of your wedding day.
What’s been the most unusual request you’ve received for photographs?
I was booked for a Hen/Stag parties, capturing photographs of their activities during the day. The Groom and his friends went on an activity day clay pigeon shooting, raft building etc. The Bride and her friends did a professional dance class then a recording studio session and I must say that both days were amazing! My photographs then formed an album which was created ahead of the wedding for their family and friends to see on the day. It was then such an honour to capture their big day. We are still friends today and I have since had the pleasure of capturing their two wonderful children.
What has been your very best day in your job and why?
Every time I receive a booking, it reminds me that I do the best job in the world. Each and every time, I get excited, it never gets old! It confirms that couples like what I offer and love my work and by far, that is the best feeling in the world.
Tell us about the award nomination?
A nomination for the Guides for Brides 5* Customer Service Award came from one of my wedding couples… You know who you are! I really must say a huge thank you to you for taking the time to nominate me for such a fabulous wedding award. I never even knew such a wedding award existed!
